Appreciation for difficult things

I don't know if you can see the black square at the top of the tower.  Hopefully, you can see the scaffolding, this is a rare sight. They are releafing the gold on the Angel Moroni on top of the temple. Evidently it has some worn down areas that need repair.  Today I was doing some work on my family tree side, on the Bell's. We are related to Alexander Grahm Bell's wife apparently. In any event, I noticed that my great grandfather William Bell, showed a Mom and to the right of his name a wife. I didn't recall him being a polygamist so I asked one of our more experienced Librarians. In any event, She told me to check the marriage dates. As I opened it up more and looked at more connections I vaguely remembered the story that my grandmother was raised by the town's doctor because her mother passed away before she was two and her father remarried. I saw how many children her mother had, but then I saw her stepmother's children. She bore 10 children half of the...

Mission Report #1 from July 2nd 2019

Image
Hi all.  I am Having a great time. Amazing place! Food is delicious. Accommodations are nice.  All the classes are like pam Fran and Kim teaching SS but on steroids . Letter is a bit scattered. Sorry.  I have been waiting 41 years to put on my badge. I have to laugh because they accidentally made me four of them! We heard a general authority tonight. I can't remember his name (Brother Clark) but great talk on bearing testimony of the Savior more often . Shared some awesome missionary stories.  The MTC  Choir sang "how lovely was the morning" it was so glorious , a wonderful arrangement. It was done with such fervor and feeling.  The choir took up all the bleachers! We have ninety seniors here. We got front row seats!  We have gotten to watch several exclusive videos made just for the MTC.   Many of the videos are the apostles teaching us. The real meat of the gospel. Elder Bednar’s he character of Christ that he ga...

So we need more Senior missionaries!!! (couples and singles) Anybody want to join me? Even for 6 months?

Image
Just for laughs, I just had to post this! See the picture below. Ok, so seriously we are short handed in the Mission office and need another couple asap .  Also we really need more workers in the Family Search  Library. When there are no patrons needing help, you can work on your own family search , or history,  or read or write you own personal history. I just can't sew here of course, : (  unless it is hand sewing...lol Although crochet and needle work are also doable.  A lot of patrons work on extractions as well,  as they have time.  For me I am working through the training manual. So hopefully I will have some idea of how I can help patrons. In any event even if a couple or single sister could only serve six months it would be a huge help!!!  Who wouldn't want to be here in the winter months!? We can walk to work, no snow ,  lovely weather, updated  apartments, lovely temple grounds, great...

The Family Search Library

Well today was my first full day at the Library. I am not used to sitting all day and doing mental work . I was fighting falling asleep at various times. SO I had to get up and walk around a bit or do something different. Today I was catching up on all the refferrals to the missionaries. I learned how to run the front desk, the cash register, and take count of all the patrons. Tomorrow I will start working on going through the different excercises in my training book. Apparently we can work on our own family history search or writing family history stories, as long as there are not patrons who  are needing our help. In any event it was along day.... I briefly met with the mission president  at the end of the day again . This was so he could authorize me to access the refferrals via computer. He informed me too that the Ap's (assistant to the president) could help update my phone with all the companionships and their phone numbers quickly. Plus then when they have tra...

Music and storytelling

So tonight at the visitor center from 7-8 we had a concert of sorts. David Wheatley a pianist (played for a lot of tv show sitcoms) and Barbara Shepperd a writer and storyteller performed. There was quite a large crowd. There were a lot of others who were invited by the Elders and Sisters to join us for the evening. A lot of socializing and meeting people from all around LA area. Afterwards I ended up talking to the Church Public relations couple  Borther and Sister D.and they found out I used to direct Children's theater and was a professional storyteller. Alaso they found out that I was familiar with several languages. They decided to leak that information to the man in charge of setting up the varying weekly programs. So I have been asked to perform at some future time. That should be fun.   Sister D said she played the Piano and she herself had been involved with theater for many years and she would be happy to accompany me. I was approached later by two sister mission...

MTC Friends

Nice laundry facility A couple from my district. Her husband was a total crack up. They are serving in South America. what a great sense of humor and quick wit. The couple on the right were newlyweds. Their spouses both passed away within a year of each other. They met at the St George temple and became friends and then 6 month later ended up getting married. Then a year later they decided to go on a mission and  have been called to serve in Somoa. They were darling. Wished I was going with them. This couple was our "ohers" that we practiced teaching on/ They are serving in Africa and were wonderful. He taught at the Unversity in Logan for years. They are awesome.. I Miss them. this was our fabulous teacher on the left Sister Farnsworth. She would make a great daughter in law hitn hint. She is 22.   Seated in fron of me in my dear sweeet companion she is 75 and  serving a mission! So Awesome!! These were selfies  I took with my badge  ...
