Music and storytelling

So tonight at the visitor center from 7-8 we had a concert of sorts. David Wheatley a pianist (played for a lot of tv show sitcoms) and Barbara Shepperd a writer and storyteller performed. There was quite a large crowd. There were a lot of others who were invited by the Elders and Sisters to join us for the evening. A lot of socializing and meeting people from all around LA area.

Afterwards I ended up talking to the Church Public relations couple  Borther and Sister D.and they found out I used to direct Children's theater and was a professional storyteller. Alaso they found out that I was familiar with several languages. They decided to leak that information to the man in charge of setting up the varying weekly programs. So I have been asked to perform at some future time. That should be fun.   Sister D said she played the Piano and she herself had been involved with theater for many years and she would be happy to accompany me.

I was approached later by two sister missionaries from different countreies in South American asking me if I had a sewing machine. I replied that I did indeed have one with me.She asked if I could do her a favor and put some darts in her dress shoulders  so that it fit her better. I told her I had to so the same thing to my tops often. So they offered to come and help me unpack a few of my boxes and help me put some things away in exchange for  little sewing job.
While they were here, they happened to see my reborn babies on the couch and were totally enchanted with them. I asked if they would like to hold one and they both took turns oohhing and ahhing over them.  They are really sweet young ladies.
I offered them a cinnamon roll from IKEA and they first said they didn't want me to go to too much trouble. However once I explained it was a simple matter, they both accepted them with much appreciation. It made for a nice visit.

We are all scattered on various levels and  in apartments  all over teh four story building.
So there is only one set of Sister missionaries near me.
I am not sure why that is, but this building is quite quiet. I get a littel stir crazy at times. I am so used to some noise and activity.  it is so peaceful and quiet here I find myself dozing off about midday.

I had a nice cross breeze today so I left all my doors and windows opened while I unpacked and situated things. Tomorrow I start training on the job so to speak.

Church was nice but a rather small crowd surprisingly. I was delighted to find out that Sister W (who specializes in Chiense family history) attends there too, so we sat together, which was nice. She is single also and had a fascinating career in genetics at UCLA and  had worked some other places before that.

I sent out followup texts to teh Sister and Elders to see if they made contact with people wjo wanted to meet with them. I got varying responses from all of them. So I texted back some praise or cheerful  comments. I am taking over that job because  Sister R who was doing it is leaving to go home on Monday. She has served here for 18 months. I still can't quite visualize myself being here for 23 months but I have to admit the grounds are lovely .  It makes taking a daily walk around them quite delightful. I need to get a step counter watch so I can get back up to walking two miles a day again.

Otherwise I have made great progress in getiing settled. Just two more boxes of items to put away. My ikea cabinet is working out quite nicely, I will post pics of my apt tomorrow. the before and after. Below are many of the sweet and friendly sisters serving here at teh Visitors's center. They are from all over. I spoke a little bit of French to one and she got a kick out of it.
