My ninth cousin and new friend again. "They deserve to be remembered" special event.

So my friend  J Y came to visit. I  guess I  have been a good? influence on her. She came last week for the Intermediate Family search class. I told her how we needed 9 local service missionaries to staff the library.  So I showed her opportunities online. She told me on Wed that she has decided to apply to becomes a Church service Missionary. So I showed her where to sign up online. She was quite tickled to find out that she could come and serve here at the library with me. I am excited too because now I will have a friend to hang out with occasionally. She also happens to be a professional librarian by trade. So she is going to be a great asset. Not to mention she knows more about family search than I do and has had way more experience.
We had lunch together. I had just gotten a new order of a few dresses that are lightweight cotton for the heat here.  So I tried them on and had her look at the colors on me. All were a good color on me except one. Which I felt was too plae on me. However, her skin color is darker than mine and her hair is too. So I asked her if she wanted to try it on, it turns out we are the same size.
She loved it, so I put on mine with the darker colors and we are now twiners.
She called me tonight to tell me she wore it to church today and received some nice compliments. Her daughter came home and saw her wearing it and loved it too.
So I figured if she was going to be a missionary too, that I would go through my closet and weed out some of the clothing that I didn't care for.  I had a few items I didn't like wearing or the colors were too pale on me. I also had two pairs of inexpensive shoes that I have only worn once.  She paid me for the new dress and a jacket that I had nothing to go with. Turns out she had the exact colors at home needed for the flowered suit jacket.  So she ended up with a brown skirt, 2 pairs of shoes, and a few tops I didn't like. they all looked great on her. Plus she liked them also.

Saturday, Nov. 2nd was supposed to be a big day for us. We had been reparing for weeks for people to come to the library. We were expecting a huge crowd due to this event.
Well, more than 745 people did come.  There were a lot of classes and workshops on family history, and remembering their ancestors. There were also talks by the mission president and his wife.
There were so many activities upstairs, that it kept everyone pretty busy.
Also, they served free food in the parking lot under tents.  There were tamales, (some kind of chocolate drink made of chocolate, corn, water, and some milk) forgot the name of it.  It tasted like a hot milkshake. I thought it was good. They also served chickatas? kind of like tamales but spicer and with a different filling. They also had various, "day of the dead" bread flavored with anise and orange. It was sweet bread, and very interesting.

We were all set to give away USB sticks/thumb drives to everyone who came down to the library. Also, copier copies were free for that day. We were all trained to help them make a family history book. It would be a simple one for their children. The USB had the templates on it, that worked with Libre office a free downloadable program. We were all set to help them scan photos and write their little books. We even had a free plastic photo holder for the book pages to fit into. We had arts and crafts stations. It was for them to make these really nice 3 D shadow box frames, for people to display some of their ancestors in. It was a very successful event upstairs. So much so, that we only had a handful of people make it downstairs.
However, I was able to help a nice lady (of Hispanic descent) print off her family search pedigree. This was so she could see where she was at. She would get so lost, and forget who she was working on, that she would not get much done. It turns out she had great documentaion because some of her family went back through royal lines in Spain? I think it was,  She was so grateful, she gave me a huge hug and thanked me several times. I was glad, that what she needed help with, I could actually do. I still have a lot to learn.

I got a chance to talk to the mission president and his wife that night because I had forgotten to give them the key back to their house. Plus I dropped off my leftover chicken noodle soup that I made for the dinner on Monday night, I told him about the turnout and asked if he could let those Spanish wards and stake know about the activity we had prepared for them. I asked if he would let them know, that they could come back at any time. We would teach them how to make a small inexpensive book for their kids, about their ancestors.

ok I am all caught up now with my blog. On to new adventures for November.
However, first I need to go to sleep.
