Gorgeous gowns and Alterations for the big Gala
So I was approached by the Head of the visitor's center in August, He asked if they could hire me to alter these gowns for the sisters. They will reimburse me for all my expenses and time.
Or I can trade time and they will purchase the fabric and supplies that I need for the secret project I am making for the homebound missionaries.
Apparently, they have some special gala with a lot of government officials in Dec each year.
So they made a deal, with some store that sells these gowns. The only challenge is getting the right sizes. Usually, the smaller sizes sell out quickly. So some of these have had to be really sewed a lot. Some have been easier only needing a shorter hem. Some of the bodices I couldn't alter on my machine and had to hand sew. All in all, there are about 24 dresses to do. I was able to work it out to take a day off or a few hours here and there from the library to work on these dresses.
I am using the money for my secret projects which is: to purchase pillowcases or fabric, and supplies, to embroider temple bag envelopes or pillowcases or drawstring knapsacks for the missionaries who are headed home.
As for the dresses I have only managed to complete four so far. I have fitted several. The pictures are some before and after. SO my studio apt is full of gowns hanging around everywhere.
The last few Sundays I have been too tired to sew. This Sunday I had a headache, that has been going on for the last few days.
In any event, some have sequins and other trims that I have not sewn on before. So I googled on u tube and found some tips and hints that worked very well.
