Another P day visitor with her grandkids yeah! A special Patron in the library. Aug 12-17

My new friend I met in the genealogy class my first day here, came for a visit on Wed. Sister Y brought her granddaughters. So we had a fun morning doing some embroidering, having a picnic and visiting the  Family search library. They really enjoyed some of the family history extras on the programs, like seeing which ancestor you look like. We got their backpacks ready for school.
I made a towel for our Sister B in the library as her birthday was Monday.
Later in the week, I finished the pillowcase designs that each of them wanted. Their Grandma was up here on Sat and picked them up from me in the library.

This week was pretty good and I was kept busy with missionary referral followups. I was also learning more family search tricks. Now that my head doesn't hurt it is much easier to figure out the Family Search program.
on Friday:
I was able to help this sweet elderly lady from Argentina find her desceased friend's family.  she is helping her friend's kids find their roots. In fact, she specifically requested me to help her. That felt good to know as I had worked with her earlier this week.

I was also getting the letter written to all the stakes presidents and stake self-reliant specialists for information on the English classes being offered. The mission president is checking my letter then it will go out as well. I will then be involved with that in some way as well just not sure how.

Saturday I was able to help a Spanish family get started. Their teens caught on quickly. I was pleased to be able to show her how to enter the ID of the first individual in her family that had just passed away. So once we got to her grandparents and put their id in from her mother's family search page, it automatically entered several generations of information for her. It was pretty cool.

I showed him how to use the hints to verify various ancestors and attach documents to their records. He caught on quite quickly and went to town. He was so engrossed He stayed most of the day!

My special patron was the third one I helped today. He was a  young man with a special need.
I am guessing he has high functioning Down syndrome.
HE knew his way around the family search program.

However, he needed help cutting and pasting information into his ancestor's records. He wanted to locate the locations of the cemeteries where his grandparents and great uncle were buried. He wanted to go and visit them, one was in San Jose, Calif surprisingly.

He was having trouble with the mouse and his finger coordination.
Happily, we were on a touch screen which helped him.

When I saw how many smiths he had in his line, we decided for fun to turn on our apps in our phones. We wanted to see if we were related in any way. So we went to the family search phone app and hit more at the bottom right-hand corner. Then we clicked on "find relatives around me". So it scanned both of our trees and we found out that we were fifth cousins.
Yes, he is descended from Samuel Smith, Joseph Smith's brother.
Whereas I am descended from Silas Smith who is a brother to Joseph Smith Sr. ,
who is Joseph Jr. dad.
He wanted to give me a cousin hug before he left, (normally we can't hug others of the opposite sex unless they are family),  but given he was related and had a special needs I wasn't worried about it.

He was thrilled and such a loving young man. It was a special privilege to work with him and we probably worked together for over 2 hours.  At times he would be so pleased with himself when he managed the program he would say " I am so smart" and I would agree with him. I asked him who taught him how to run the program and he said he taught himself. So if he can do it , certainlly I can eventually master this too!

The young lady holding a towel is President Cordon's daughter and she is headed out to the mission field on Wednesday. she goes to the MTC in Provo first for three weeks only, because she is already fluent in Spanish and English. She will be serving in Florida. I made her a towel for her mission.
