Getting the hang of things, and swinging into new adventures
Note: My new badge stating my specific mission
these were many of the similarities we were able to draw between Joseph's life and the Savior's. However while Joseph saved his people physically , the Savior saves us spiritually.
As promised here are the men up on the scaffolding fixing the Angel Moroni. They have also been tearing up the parking lot to install new led? lighting. It is going to be nice to have good lighting all the way to the apartments. It is just a mess and a lot of noise right now.
Thank goodness in the library we don't hear it all.
Small commercial. My babies are enjoying the attention from the Sister Missionaries.
Since we can't hold or babysit babies or kids while on our mission for safety reasons this is the next best thing.
All the missionaries have been hard at work. Everyone of them has a service day every two weeks.
There was originally a "tree of life " here with huge big low branches
Apparently it died sadly and they ended up replacing it wit h the tree above. You probably can't see them but there are flowers blooming out of the bushes.
Apparently I missed all the Birds of Paradise that were blooming a few weeks ago. We found this one though on my walk with Sister M. we decided to do a 20 min walk around the grounds. She used to live in the area and showed me around the grounds telling me history about it, which was nice.
Today apparently is " Mormon" day at the dodgers game so practically the whole mission is going. Younger and older missionaries are going to root for them. My home Bishop jokingly told me not to become a dodgers fan while I am out here.
LA DODGERS
So I opted it mainly because sitting on bleachers for hours with no back support would be deadly for me. Not only does my back hurt but my legs stiffen up which is not helpful. In stead I am going to use the evening to organize my sewing stuff and work on a project. I finally had my shaft arrive that I ordered off of Amazon, some how I got here with all my sewing machine feet but not the shaft you attach the feet too. So now I am in business. I am going to work on organizing more. I am also eliminating stuff that got duplicated . I am sending home some filled suitcases with my friend who is going to visit for a a few days next month.
Oh they also have a Senior Missionary movie night every Friday. There is also a potluck once a month. So we have one this coming Monday.
So for other news... I have finally caught up with all the referral followups, so I was able to branch out into some training yesterday. A lady who is a 14 years family search veteran arrived two months before me. She saw the need for a training manual so we could all know the same materials and how to work various scanners, machines etc. Anyway it has us do simple exercises on our own family tree and then check mark off , after we have learned each new little skill. My trainer Sister M and I are often paired together on our shift so she can help me out, they also have short training videos on each topic as well as handouts which s really helpful.
Just to give you an idea. Last night I learned how to add a family name to my tree and was able to put in my sister who was born premature. She was born in 1952 on August 22nd and only lived a few hours. So I learned how to find her in a birth and death index of records from California.
So for P-day I mostly bought some organizers and groceries so I can get better situated in my apt. I also took a new senior sister with me. She is from Provo. Sister S just got here Monday and little did I know, ( the gal Sister R, who had just left) had a one bedroom apartment I could have moved into. Oh well... Sister S is only here for a year and she says she will swap with me before she moves.
I got a garbage can with a closing lid because otherwise my apt smells like a garbage can when I come back at the end of the day. I have tried six different stores and no body sells Borax or microwave cook lids. So I am just going to order one off of Amazon.
Slowly but surely my apartment is starting to feel like home as I get things organized in a way that works for me. I miss my dishwasher, but then again it is just me so it isn't too bad washing dishes by hand. I will post pictures when I get it to how I like it. I bought a "stick on" battery operated light bulb so I could light my back porch deck at night and sit out there in the cool breeze.
The three inch foam gel mattress that I bought at Costco seems to be helping. I really like my intelligel bed better. It allows me to be pain free.

Anyway the biggest news will be in my next blog. I am falling asleep so I need to get up and move around.
