A happy buzzing in the Library

Image
I really enjoyed Friday the 9th of August as we had a group of youth come in the morning and afternoon. The first group did research and founds family names for the temple. The second group learned how to do indexing. It made for a busy day that passed quickly. Note: I worked with the very basic beginners since I am barely ahead of them. I am still learnign all the ins and out of the programs and record searching. this is from my Training Sister's blog "The teens were broken up into groups according to their skill levels. I actually worked with the OWLS (moderately advanced). Nearly the entire staff was involved with the teens. The ones in this picture w are Sister D, Sister N , then Sister M my trainer and  Elder N.  — at  Los Angeles FamilySearch Libra ry" It was the busiest Friday I've had in the Familysearch Library. We hosted a large church youth group from Lancaster, CA. Almost 60 in all. Some kids didn't look enthused when they arrived. But I think e...

Meili hits the Beach and I head to the library

Image
So Meili grabbed uber to the beach and I headed back to work at the library on Thursday afternoon. She got back later that night and arranged to visit a friend of her's in Longbeach the next day. Someone she got to know at the Job core there. My glasses were still working well and I was quite pleased with how much better I feel with them. No more falling asleep, or having my eyes shut. My brain is no longer stressed and I can focus much better now. Friday night we went to a well-recommended yelp Dim sum /Chinese restaurant. the food was delicious!! a bit pricey but well worth it. Sorry we were so hungry we forgot to take pictures of the food. On Sat we headed downtown to Little Korea? or Japan town?. I forgot which and I also did not take very many pictures. It was interesting with street musicians and lots of little places to eat and shop all Asian themed of course. Lots of people there a big variety! we had the fancy Korean Ramen while we were there. Meili s...

Meili visits Aug 7th and Chinese food

Image
Happily, my car was repaired in time and I drove it to the airport Wed to pick up Meili. We grabbed some breakfast on the way home. I did some other errands too, like grabbing some extra fabric at the sewing store. Stopping at the chiropractor again and getting some groceries I think. It was my P day after all. We went home and Meili crashed and took a nap since she stayed up the night before. When she got up we went out for a late lunch of dim sim at a nearby Chinese restaurant that Siter W (Our Chinese specialist at the library) told me about. see pictures below. Meili was quite pleased with that.

Farewell August 5th back to work

Image
So as I said before my friends left on Monday. I was sad to see them go and their daughter wanted to stay here but I told her her mommy needed her. Besides she was going to get to go to Kindergarten this year. After I took them to the airport on my lunch break my car decided to break down and go chug chug  chug and barely went over 20 mph. So I called the closest Honda dealer and limped the car over there for them to look at and repair. There were nice enough to drop me home at the Library. I had left at 12:30 and planned to be back by 1:30 but with the car issue I didn't get back until nearly 3-3:30. I texted the Librarian and my friends to let them know what happened.  When I got back I discovered that my glasses (see picture below) had arrived and I was delighted to see that they made a difference. So no more headaches, no more can't keep my eyes open, after a few days of using them I started sleeping normally again. I also found I was sleepy and...

Sunday August 4th Church and the beach

Image
August 4th While Lucy's parents recovered from the last two days, Lucy and I went to church. (I found out later that the missionary rule about being alone with a child includes family kids as well) However, she sat through Sacrament really well and attended primary on her own with the other kids. Afterward, to buy her parents a little more nap time, I took her to the park right next to our chapel by their pavilion and sports area. We ate lunch at the apartment and we made burritos with the homemade tortillas from Trader Joes. Wow! they were really good and so much better than the store brands. Then we headed to the beach to the Santa Monica pier. I wanted Lucy to get the full beach experience. She waded in the waves with her dad and we built a sandcastle,  dug and found sand crabs and watched them swim and dig into the sand, buried her in the sand, made her a mermaid tail, and collected shells. We arrived there around 3 ish and left abt 6 ish. ...

California Adventure Land and I went back to the library

Image
So my friends headed out the second day for California adventure land. They said there was lots of walking and rides but a lot of the rides they went to would be shut down at various times which was frustrating. However, Luch was totally enthused about everything.  Meanwhile, I worked at the library all day. I was achy and sore from the day before and fell asleep four times that day in front of the computer. Fortunately, I was in the back so no patrons saw me.

Mickey Mouse everywhere

Image
I just had to take pictures of all the treats because they were so clever and cute Apparently, Mickey Mouse ears have become quite popular and have evolved into quite ornate head pieces I was appalled to see what used to be maybe $3-5 is now $27-30 a total rip off for something they will only wear once. We were all set to buy Lucy some, that is until we saw the price tag. Eh gads! shocking gouging parents. We tried to steer Lucy towards something practical since everything was an exorbitant price. We came up with a  Minnie Mouse backpack, or Minnie mouse shoes or socks or a purse etc. Lucy was trying to be a good sport and be ok with that However after she teared up I knew we had better just wait till we found something else for her. So she agreed to wait,  such a good kid she didn't throw a fit. She was just disappointed. While they watched the parade we went into the Disneyland shop (across from the Emporium) where they sell clothing and I was ...

On to more adventures

Headed into Mr. Toad's wild ride Of course, we went into It's a small world after all.... still as lovely as ever and it was nice and cool in there waiting for the spaceship ride meeting Tinkerbell I would ask her to be my companion but she would need a major wardrobe overall and have to be a little less flighty After the African Safari Bryan bought a hat for the rest of the trip
